Iran’s Environmental Crisis Reaches Alarming Levels

5/10/2025

Iran is facing an environmental catastrophe, with critical indicators pointing to a deepening crisis. Widespread land subsidence, the destruction of wildlife species, unprecedented soil erosion, and a severe water crisis have pushed the country’s ecological status into the red zone.

One of the most alarming signs is in Fars Province, where land subsidence has reached the highest rate in the world. In plains like Fasa, the ground is sinking at an annual rate of 54 centimeters—140 times the critical threshold.

Deforestation and the destruction of habitats for rare species such as the Asiatic cheetah and the Hyrcanian tiger are accelerating. Meanwhile, Iran’s soil erosion rate is eight times the global average. This widespread environmental degradation directly threatens Iran’s food security, economic stability, and even political resilience.

Environmental neglect in Iran as the result of Regime’s destructible policies has led to 43% of the country’s wetlands drying up and becoming sources of dust storms, according to official reports.

Without urgent and sustained intervention, the consequences could be irreversible.
