The Green Party of Iran condemns the death sentences facing six Iranian students

9/26/1999

The Islamic Republic of Iran is planning to execute six students, including four students arrested during the July uprisings in Tehran, and two student writers and editors recently accused of insulting the Islamic religion in their satirical play. In addition, we believe that the students may have been tortured in order to extract confessions. The Green Party of Iran demands the immediate commutation of these six death sentences and asks the Green Parties and human rights organizations around the world to intervene. We believe in freedom of speech and of religion and consider that the imprisonment and execution of students, writers and political dissidents is a disturbing development for the state of human rights in Iran on the threshold of the 21st century.
